Skills Training Approach – Skills for Life

I train my clients in techniques and strategies, to ensure clients have a range of tools and resources fundamental to health and well-being; developing psychological resilience and confidence in their ability to deal with life’s difficulties.

There is an abundance of research on the capacities and limitations of the human mind dispersed across academia in the field of psychology and related fields.  My role is to draw upon these research findings, sharing this knowledge with you; making these skills and practices accessible.

The treatment plans that I put together are based on substantiated principles and protocols of cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness based cognitive therapy; utilising hypnotherapy to increase effectiveness. Qualifications

I began my study of Psychology in 2001, at the National University of Ireland, Galway.  Deeply fascinated by areas of psychology such as biological psychology and research methods, I marvelled at the astounding potential of the human mind. During training with The Open University at postgraduate level in Psychology, in 2006, I conducted a piece of research on working memory and it was at this point, that I took a particular interest in cognitive psychology. Through the National University of Ireland, Galway and The Open University, I acquired and developed the capacity to design, conduct and compile psychological research. Conducting research, directly impacted on my determination to become a practitioner of evidence-based therapies.

Elected as a graduate member of the British Psychological Society in 2008: the same year, I began working with the ISPCC as a mentor and later as a Childline call facilitator.  My role was to assist children and young people in developing decision making skills, coping strategies, psychological resilience and self-esteem.

An avid reader in the field of psychology I continued to look into therapeutic interventions, which led me to study an evidence-based approach to psychological therapy, which involved combining the two of the most powerful psychological therapies namely Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Clinical Hypnotherapy. At the UK College of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies in 2010, I studied Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.

Informed in what constitutes as valid and reliable research, I am dedicated to continuously studying and researching in the area of psychology, psychotherapy, mindfulness and related fields. I continue my professional development yearly; this has included study with Bangor University – Centre of Mindfulness Research and Practice.
